PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Assists Pharmacist by performing technical functions.
Skills:
1. Some IV room experience and med station (we have Pyxis) refilling/replenishment is highly preferred
2. Medication reconciliation experience is great but not a deal breaker if they do not have it.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Reviews and processes departmental order requests.
2. Prepares medications for distribution to the patient care units.
3. Distributes medications to the patient care units.
4. Orders medications from various suppliers.
5. Prepares parenteral products.
6. Maintains the medication inventory, place orders in stock, check expiration dates, process returns as needed.
7. Trains and orients new pharmacy support personnel.
8. Billing and other pharmacy duties that do not require a pharmacist.
9. Maintains appropriate records and regulatory documentation.
10. Pre-packaging and labeling of bulk medications to unit dosed containers/packaging.
11. Answers telephone directing phone calls appropriately and diverts all medication/clinical inquiries to the Pharmacist.
12. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and coworkers.
13. Maintains cleanliness of the department
14. Performs other work related duties as assigned.
Additional Inpatient Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Obtains patient medication orders for medication reconciliation duties to input into MAR.
2. Prepares chemotherapy and dosage calculation checks.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / TRAINING
Inpatient Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician – Job Code 00024
· Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
· High school diploma or GED.
· Massachusetts state registration as a Pharmacy Technician.
· Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification
· One-year recent experience (within the past 3 years) as a Pharmacy Technician; 3 years preferred
· Duties require very good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
