Title: Systems Reliability Team Manager
Location: Location: Oakland, CA (Schedule - Hybrid preferred (local to Oakland) currently 2 days in office but open to remote to widen the search if you have difficulties finding candidates)
Duration: 9 months
Functional Job Description:
This leadership role combines product management and software development lifecycle (SDLC) oversight within the Journey Experience (JX) business group, which leads digital strategy, pension administration system (Client) product management, member self-service experience, digital capability delivery, and platform stability and enhancements. The System Reliability team operates at the front of the Client SDLC, translating business needs into clear business requirements for technology teams responsible for application development. The manager leads a team of seven staff responsible for production and data incident troubleshooting to identify and resolve system defects while ensuring reliable system performance. The role establishes business priorities for technology delivery and oversees the ongoing performance, stability, and evolution of the Client platform through platform roadmap planning, policy and compliance alignment, portfolio delivery coordination, vendor strategy oversight, and ongoing digital product strategy. Experience with pension or retirement administration systems is preferred but not required.
Essential Functions:
FYI: To direct is defined as translating organizational strategy into team priorities, ensuring that outputs align with governance and enterprise goals.
Direct reliability/platform roadmap aligned to enterprise strategy and funding.
Direct policy enforcement for change, release, and incident management.
Direct availability, performance, and KPI targets with accountability.
Direct vendor strategy and contract performance for core platforms.
Direct product strategy that delivers continue process and system improvements.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or equivalent. Portfolio and policy governance experience across systems; able to translate strategy into standards and accountability.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
FYI: To ensure standards are met across teams, aligning resources and policies.
Ensure core systems and platform concepts (APIs, messaging, data stores, environments, release mgmt) across teams.
Ensure incident management practices and post-incident learning.
Ensure observability tooling (logs, metrics, traces) and alert tuning.
Ensure change/configuration management aligned to policy and audit needs.
Ensure CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation appropriate to risk level.
Ensure security basics and vulnerability remediation.
Ensure documentation standards including runbooks, diagrams, and KB entries.
Ensure cross-team communication with Design, Capabilities, and QC to coordinate delivery.
