Position Summary/About the role

Purpose of Position

 

Assists in providing safe, quality patient care and efficient operation of Endoscopy and the Surgical Suite in the treatment and care of perioperative patients in accordance with established policies and procedures.

 

 

 

Description

 

1. Assists physicians with tests performed throughout the surgical and diagnostic procedures. Prepares rooms and sets up required equipment. Take vital signs and positions patient on table. Assists patients in recovery room as needed. Prepares rooms for the next procedure.

 

2. Maintains and cleans equipment and supplies used for endoscopic procedures. Maintains documentation of environmental and equipment monitoring required by the State and/or other regulatory agencies.

 

3. Communicates with Sterile Processing specific information pertaining to added procedures and specialty needs. Maintains and periodically reviews the inventory of specially ordered medical/surgical supplies.

 

4. Assists members of the Surgical Suite Team in maintaining the operative schedule by transporting patients, turning over operating rooms, and performs shave preps according to prep manual, standing or specific written doctor's orders.

 

5. Assists the Supply and Equipment Supervisor in maintaining adequate inventories of supplies through accurate reporting of shortages, damaged or defective equipment.

 

6. Participates in at least 4 unit staff meetings per year and attends mandatory programs.

 

7. Assists in orientation of other personnel to the unit under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

 

8. Participates in on-call as assigned.

 

9. Performs other work related duties and activities as assigned or requested by his/her supervisor.

 

 

 

Qualifications

 

· Ability to read, write and communicate in English.

 

· High school graduate or GED.

 

· Two years recent experience (within the past 5 years) as Nursing Assistant II, C.N.A., EC Tech or one year recent experience (within the past 5 years) in a direct patient care position in Perioperative Services.

 

· Comprehensive knowledge of aseptic technique and principles involved preferred.

 

· BLS required.
