Position Summary/About the role

Purpose of Position

 

Under the supervision of the Cardiologist's, and following established technical standards, provides Echocardiography ultrasound images of the heart and related structures of adult and geriatric patients for Cardiologist interpretation. Exercises professional judgement in performance of procedures and assists the Cardiologist in conducting diagnostic examinations.

 

 

 

Description

 

1. Obtains pertinent clinical history and data, positions patient, and selects ultrasonic technique to acquire echocardiogram of diagnostic quality.

 

2. Performs 2-D, M-Mode, Pulse/Continuous Wave Color Doppler

 

3. Capable of writing preliminary interpretation.

 

4. Performs emergency studies as required.

 

5. Maintains echo lab records and patient charges.

 

6. Participates in the activities required to maintain echocardiography changes and updates.

 

7. Fulfills the educational requirements of the clinic and all accreditation and licensing agencies governing the delivery of care. This includes, but is not limited to, current CPR certification and attendance at mandatory office in-services.

 

8. Ensures equipment and room have been cleaned and room restocked after each patient and at the end of the day.

 

9. Gathers and assesses information relative to the patient's age-specific needs.

 

10. Provides care needed to achieve the desired clinical outcomes.

 

11. Understands and modifies therapeutic approach in response to the patient's non-verbal reactions to therapy, psychosocial needs, physical limitations, and any other age or illness specific issues.

 

12. Follows standard Echo Protocol of the lab's accreditation.

 

13. Assists physician with special ultrasound procedures and transesophageal echo's performed in the outpatient area.

 

14. Responsible for accreditation of ICAEL and that practice follows ICAEL protocols in the outpatient cardiac area.

 

a. Quarterly reports

 

b. QA meetings

 

c. Maintains echo lab records, including maintenance of ultrasound equipment

 

d. Physician liaison for issues with digital reporting system

 

15. May be required to work independently or with a team.

 

16. Practices good communication skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced setting.

 

17. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

· Ability to read, write and communicate in English

 

· Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) from ARDMS, or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)

 

· 1-2 Years previous experience in Echocardiography required

 

· Capable of working independently

 

· Good communication skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced setting

 

· BLS required

 

· All certifications and registrations must be maintained, active, and current
