Position Summary/About the role

Staff to be dedicated to Instrument Picking for surgical/procedural cases.
Must have Case Cart experience

Expectations:

Call the supervisor to notify them you have arrived, ***

You must change into surgical scrubs. Bathrooms are down the hall through the double doors, turn left through another set of double doors, and the bathrooms are on the right. You cannot wear scrub jackets from outside.

Scrubs must be returned to the linen hamper next to the blue scrub cart after your shift.

Hairnets & shoe covers are required. No earbuds are to be worn while working.

You should have badge access to the needed locations. If your badge is not working, you can get a temp badge in the ED.

The supervisor will teach you how to pick instruments, if you have not already been taught.

If all the cases are picked:

o Check carts for missing instruments and try to locate them.

o Ensure the carts are in an order by the time of the surgery.

o Take items from the put away shelves and scan them into their usual locations

o Check carts for missing materials (first pages of the case cart pick list) – items that are circled were not found for the procedure. Use the bin location to try and find the materials and stock the carts.

o If that is done, ask someone in materials how to help re-stock the returned supplies.

Scan all trays and instruments to check them into the cart. Instruments must be tracked for health and safety reasons. We need to be able to always track their location.
